The new normal

I live in Massachusetts. Masks have been mandatory in some communities since May 1, 2020. Masks have been “mandatory” state-wide since May 6, 2020. You would think that people were being asked to sacrifice something most precious to them by wearing a mask. Oh, wait, people can’t admonish me to smile anymore. Sad trombone.

I’m not the best photographer. But I had to capture images of Moody Street in Waltham this morning. Massachusetts has had outdoor dining for about a week now. Diners will be allowed inside restaurants starting Monday, June 22, 2020. Those of us who normally sit at the bar will have it hardest. It’s tough to physically distance oneself at the bar most times.

The science is clear. Wearing a mask will help us return to normal quicker.
Here is picture of new cases in Massachusetts since May 1st. You can keep track of things yourself here.

I’m an analyst by training. This graph shows that the number of new cases since May 1st has been dropping. It is taking so long for the numbers to come down because maybe 60% of people are wearing masks? There is an uptick in cases over the past couple of days because of the protests. The number is so low because ….. people wore masks.
One final story, for now. There was a situation in Missouri where two hairstylists interacted with clients when they had COVID. Both the stylists and clients wore masks. Guess how many people were then infected with COVID after this close interaction?
Are you ready?
NONE.
